Collective Measures is a Boston-based, semi-professional, all gender a cappella group working tirelessly to add their own flavor to the thriving local a cappella scene. They pride themselves on creating challenging arrangements of music ranging from Jukebox the Ghost, to the Steely Dan, to Maroon 5. They have a weakness for killer mashups, and you can be sure to hear a few when you catch them performing at different venues around Massachusetts. Made up of 16 members with a variety of day jobs—and even more diverse hobbies—the group is united by their love of making music. Collective Measures is a founding member of the Contemporary A Cappella League (CAL).

Session Americana returns to the road in November for an East Coast run with Eleanor Buckland in the band featuring two new albums recorded earlier this year and bringing their unique brand of original songs, instrument swapping and unbridled joy!


SESSION AMERICANA is a Boston based cast of top-shelf players, singers, and writers who tour internationally, taking their own songs plus hundreds more from the American songbook on the road. Whether you catch Session Americana in a rock hall or on a festival stage, you’ll be a part of the intimate, raucous scene these players built years ago with one simple credo—access the joy. And with Eleanor Buckland playing in the band, that joy has never been more apparent. A rock band in a teacup or a folk band in a whiskey bottle? Take your pick. From a whisper to a roar the band is constantly swapping instruments, trading off lead vocals and sharing songwriting credits, Session Americana is constantly exploring new collaborations and touring like a band out of time. Looking back, the group has had a natural, almost inevitable evolution from a loose bunch of friends sitting around swapping songs in a bar, to a hot-ticket weekly residency, to a touring collective. Along the way, the band has made nine records (so far), played clubs and festivals across the U.S. and Europe, and developed deep collaborative bonds with a wide community of musicians. Session Americana's diligent avoidance of music business “shoulds” has led the band down a quirky and joyful path through the music world. Dennis Brennan was born on the wrong side of the tracks in Marlboro, Massachusetts.

At age 9 he entered show business as Rumplestiltsken in a grammar school play. In 7th grade he performed “Louie Louie” with a local garage band at the Berlin, Ma. Town Hall and quickly evolved into “the lead singer”

That band evolved into “The Paranoids”, his musical outlet throughout his high school years. They opened shows for both The Remains and The Barbarians, garage band legends who are each featured on “Nuggets, original artyfacts from the first psychedelic era” Rhino R2 75486.

Following high school. Brennan’s education continued as lead singer in such well regarded outfits as “The Dirty Rye Band”, The West Side Band”, “The Martells”, and “Push Push”. These bands performed in every bar and dive on the east coast. An education indeed.

In 1992 he formed the Dennis Brennan Band and started his solo career, quickly releasing two critically acclaimed recordings on Upstart Records, a division of Rounder. In 2000 he released “Rule #1” on ESCA Records which resulted in glowing reviews from The New Yorker, The Chicago Sun Times, The Boston Phoenix as well as other publications nationwide. These recordings showcase Brennans ability “to not just tip toes into genres, he strips naked and plunges right in.” Bill Holmes, AMPLIFIER.

A beloved fixture in the Boston music scene for over 25 years, Tim Gearan has become a bonafide local music hero. His warm, raspy baritone, jaw-dropping guitar skills and wry, poignant songwriting have graced the bars, pubs, and music halls throughout New England and beyond, creating a loyal cult-like following. Gearan, a New York native, spent ten years touring the globe as a sideman for the great Toni Lynn Washington, as well as collaborating with Grammy-winning singer/guitarist Susan Tedeschi. Finding his own artistic voice, Gearan has crafted an intoxicating blend of Americana, folk and blues with shades of Randy Newman, Tom Waits, JJ Cale, Leon Russell and Lowell George. He quickly established himself as a force in the Boston’s resurgent roots music scene, and his Boston area residencies have become a “can’t miss” staple of the city’s nightlife. Gearan has released 7 albums to date, as well as 4 single releases; “While the World Goes By” (2019) “It’s Not the End of the World" (2019) “Hey, Hey, Hey” (2020) and “Talk About Heaven” (2020).

And damn, can she write a song.”  Elijah Wald, Author of the story behind the major motion picture “A Complete Unknown.”  Les is an Americana singer-songwriter with a penchant for the blues.  She got her start in the Boston folk scene and moved on to national prominence and acclaim. Sampou has performed at Montreal Jazz Festival, SXSW, Toronto Blues Festival, Kerrville Folk Festival (where she won “Kerrville Folk Award), Philadelphia Folk Festival, Winnipeg, and Falcon Ridge to name a few. Sampou has released eight albums on Rounder Records and MoNando Records. She has won numerous songwriting awards including the US Songwriting Competition for her political song “Lies From Truth.”

Dennis Brennan was born on the wrong side of the tracks in Marlboro, Massachusetts.

At age 9 he entered show business as Rumplestiltsken in a grammar school play. In 7th grade he performed “Louie Louie” with a local garage band at the Berlin, Ma. Town Hall and quickly evolved into “the lead singer”

That band evolved into “The Paranoids”, his musical outlet throughout his high school years. They opened shows for both The Remains and The Barbarians, garage band legends who are each featured on “Nuggets, original artyfacts from the first psychedelic era” Rhino R2 75486.

Following high school. Brennan’s education continued as lead singer in such well regarded outfits as “The Dirty Rye Band”, The West Side Band”, “The Martells”, and “Push Push”. These bands performed in every bar and dive on the east coast. An education indeed.

In 1992 he formed the Dennis Brennan Band and started his solo career, quickly releasing two critically acclaimed recordings on Upstart Records, a division of Rounder. In 2000 he released “Rule #1” on ESCA Records which resulted in glowing reviews from The New Yorker, The Chicago Sun Times, The Boston Phoenix as well as other publications nationwide. These recordings showcase Brennans ability “to not just tip toes into genres, he strips naked and plunges right in.” Bill Holmes, AMPLIFIER.

Kara Kulpa - "Poetic and soulful" and "A riotously fun time" are just a couple of ways folks have described singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Kara Kulpa. Since the release of her debut album in 2010, Kulpa has toured the country, playing with acts ranging from Eddie Money to Rufus Wainwright as well as numerous local legends. She's integrated herself into the Boston folk scene as an omnipresent side-man, singer/songwriter soloist and residency ensemble player. A founding member of Exile on Elm Street, a 6-year Americana in-the-round residency at The Burren, Kulpa is excited to make her debut at McCarthy's this fall!

Chloe Green is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Boston, originally from Maine. She has been writing songs since her teens and singing since she can remember. Green has performed with bands in the Boston area for many years, and released her first solo album, Particles and Waves in April of this year. Chloe is also currently one half of the Boston-based alt-folk-pop-rock band The Lo-I.

He's perhaps best-known as one of the principals in alt-country precursors the Blood Oranges, but his cheat sheet also includes the more bluegrass-based Beacon Hill Billies, the rural-rocking Wooden Leg, and [...] an extended stint with Boston folkie Catie Curtis. Ryan may well be residing in your record collection in less obvious places, too -- his oft-unconventional mandolin playing has colored songs by such varied artists as Morphine, Warren Zevon, Dumptruck, Boiled In Lead, Gerald Collier and Mary Gauthier."
